General Description

The St. Thomas Nursery School is located in the Education Building of St. Thomas Church, 100 Miami Avenue, Terrace Park, Ohio 45174. The school is an extension of the outreach ministry of St. Thomas Church and is operated on a not-for-profit basis by the Rector, Wardens and Vestry of the Church. Operations of the Nursery School are delegated to the Nursery School Director and are subject to the oversight of the Rector, Wardens and Vestry of St. Thomas Church. The school serves children of all faiths, from two to five years of age.

Mission Statement

The Mission of St. Thomas Nursery School is to serve the Parish and surrounding communities by providing excellent pre-school education for children in a Christian environment. The program furnishes opportunities for preschoolers to develop as individuals and as social beings and to grow toward God in his or her unique way. In all matters, the Nursery School Advisory Council and all staff members are guided by a Christian concern for the children and families we serve.

Matters of policy and finance are handled by the Nursery School Director, with input from the Rector and Nursery School Advisory Council. The Advisory Council is comprised of seven Nursery School parents, a Vestry liaison, a staff member, and the Director. Its purpose is to provide input as to long-term planning for the preschool. A list of policies is maintained in the Director's office.

The Nursery School Director is encouraged to explore and research ways by which we may best serve the interests of children in both the Parish and the community.

Goals

At St. Thomas, we realize the importance of each child's development during these early years of life. The experiences your child will have here play an important role in their cognitive, physical, social and emotional development. We strive to present a program that encourages your child to develop a positive self image by providing an environment where creativity, discovery, and exploration flourish.

Our flexible "routine" provides a wide range of experiences, such as Kaleidoscope, a bi-weekly preschool "gym" class; playground time to develop large motor skills; a sensory room with tactile experiences in water, sand, wood, etc.; dramatic play centers such as a hospital, a post office, an ice cream parlor; fine motor experiences; literature with a wide variety of age appropriate books; manipulatives where your child can learn special concepts; science where nature encourages curiosity; structured music experiences and much more. We believe in process rather than product art. We provide opportunities for economic growth simply by exposure and positive encouragement.

With our enthusiasm for teaching and your child's for learning, we hope to build a strong self image base for a positive future.
