Sunday, February 5, may be the biggest football game of the year, but it is also a great outreach opportunity! The Souper Bowl of Caring is a national fundraiser and awareness event that uses the football game to remind us about the hungry people in our community.
Although the “loose offering” from the first Sunday usually helps to fund the Parish Discretionary Fund that the Rector administers to help individuals and families in crisis, the “loose offering” this day will be directed toward The Souper Bowl of Caring (by way of Inter Parish Ministry).
Please bring cans of soup and/or an extra dollar to church that day to donate. As part of the national observation of The Souper Bowl of Caring, we will join people in churches all across the country to collect soup and money for those who are hungry and hurtng. The Souper of Caring became a national grassroots event in 1993, and in 2011, 15,835 groups generated $9,583,628 in cash and food items (none of the funds or soup is kept aside as “overhead” but used for immediate relief work at the local level). The Souper Bowl of Caring collection will benefit Inter Parish Ministry’s Food Pantry. What a fun way to make a difference! Go team!
