The Bach Vespers at St. Thomas, a unique worship experience combining Evening Prayer with the cantatas of J. S. Bach, will feature soprano Alisa Jordheim in a performance of the heart-wrenching and, ultimately, uplifting cantata “My Heart swims in Blood.” Fitting with the season of Lent, the cantata starts with the unspeakable grief of a sinner, and ends with the recognition of redemption. As a prelude, the Cincinnati Bach Ensemble with soloist Gerry Itzkoff will perform part of a violin concerto reconstructed from an earlier harpsichord concert.
