Programs for Children

Children 3 and under are invited to join Joy Hammons and Rhonda Boulares in our nursery during the 10:15 service on Sunday mornings.

Pre-K – 2nd grade Younger Children’s Formation 3rd Floor Atrium

Using a curriculum referred to as Godly Play, all children are invited to meet in Atrium 2 on the 3rd floor at 10:00am Sunday mornings for singing, sharing, bible story, then free choice work until teachers will escort children to church for communion with their families.

The Godly Play approach helps children to explore their faith through story, to gain religious language and to enhance their spiritual experience though wonder and play. Based on Montessori principles and developed using a spiral curriculum, the Godly Play method serves children through early, middle and late childhood and beyond. 3rd-6th Grade Children Formation will build a community of friends who support one another and learn about God through Jesus. We’ll explore the stories of Jesus through the Gospels and how they relate to our lives today. We’ll do this within a safe environment for asking questions and expressing ourselves respectfully. We’ll be using multiple learning methodologies and experiences including Catechesis of the Good Shepherd, Biblical Storytelling, Lectionary based lessons and Hands on Service in our Church Community.

Our time together will include Weekly Bible stories and Gospel lessons; hands on applications of service to the church community by participating in worship as readers, acolytes, ushers, helping with coffee hour and participating in the choir; discussions and activities focused on where we can find God (and Jesus) in our world. We’ll explore topics of interest to this age group: rules and relationships, gratitude, violence, prayer, compassion, empathy, blessings and many more. Parents, grandparents and others in the parish who have a love for children and a passion for showing God’s love are welcome to volunteer on Sunday mornings.
