Children & Families Christian Formation Coordinator
“It has always been important to me that all children know they are valued and cherished. As Christ taught us, we have much to learn from them.”
Shannon received her Bachelor of Fine Arts from Morehead State University and has been an educator for nearly 20 years. The subjects she is most passionate about are Art and Christian Education. She has spent most of her career as an elementary art teacher in the greater Cincinnati area and co-established Godly Play for another local church. While working at Good Shepherd Catholic Montessori School, she saw first-hand the power of creating a Christian education program based on the Maria Montessori philosophy of education. Noting the Episcopal approach to Catechesis of the Good Shepherd, and even more directly Godly Play developed by The Rev. Dr. Jerome Berryman, Shannon commends this approach as a strong foundation in Christian education. Both as a mother of a son as well as an educator, Shannon has found art to be a wonderful outlet for reflection and meditation. Using aspects of Catechesis of the Good Shepherd, Godly Play, our Christian heritage classic teachings, and artistic expression, Shannon hopes to create an age-appropriate curriculum and approach that is thought provoking, and accessible as much as it is fun and creative. Shannon is currently working on her Master’s degree in Art Education at the Art Academy of Cincinnati. Shannon and her husband Karl have one grown son, Mitchell.
