The Reverend Deacon Gary Givler

Gary was ordained to the diaconate by Bishop Herbert Thompson on December 3, 1993.  He is retired after 45 years in Claims with The Hartford Insurance Group and the Cincinnati Insurance Company.  Since his ordination, Gary has served five different parishes as deacon, a non-stipendiary chaplain to a special needs school and Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center, and founder and board member of the Crisis Assistance Ministry in Northside (CAIN).  Among his many interests is a fascination with word and story.  Gary is longtime attendee of the National Storytelling Festival that meets in Jonesboro, Tennessee, each October.

Gary has a Bachelor’s degree in Social Science, and a Master’s in Pastoral Counseling. His counseling internship was served at Catholic Social Services in Montgomery, Ohio.  Most of his ministry has been spent working with the individuals that God sends his way every day, telling tales to church and school groups, and working with organizations that serve the poor.

Gary and his wife, Susan, have two sons, two grandsons, three granddaughters and a one-year old great granddaughter.
